Last Friday the Treasury Department sent out the last regular group of checks. Over the past 2.5 months, around 83 million checks that total about $35 billion have been mailed in the order of the last two digits of taxpayers' Social Security numbers. Rebate checks will continue to be mailed through the end of the year as the IRS processes 2000 income tax returns sent in by late-filers and taxpayers with extensions.
