Do You Have Your Afternoons Off If You Want To?

Copyright 2001 Lynne Schlumpf

I just finished my second book two days ago, and just like any other book you write - it changed my life forever. I'll never be the same. In its pages, I found another one of myself living there. But I wasn't the only one who did.

After working with hundreds of home workers who researched the stories for me, my kitchen table is full of wonderful, inspiring stories of the "little guy or gal" who took a chance, struck out on their own and found their true selves in a business that almost fell into their laps. I feel compelled to share some of the lessons they learned with you.

The book is a collection of success stories of home business owners, and I'd like to tell you a little bit about what I discovered while writing it. Why do I call it amazing? Not because I wrote it, though I'd love to tell you that. I call it this because of the effects it had on the hundreds of people who worked on it. These were effects I never expected or planned. Their outlooks on life improved. They lost weight. They got better home jobs. They started believing in themselves.

And that was just the people who did the research for the book. Imagine what it's going to do for those who read it later!

I thought you'd be on the edge of your seat! [chuckling] The success stories kept me riveted every single day I worked on this book.

How about the young men who decided that new was not necessarily the best? They took the design of a very common toy and re-designed it to make it the way it was in the 70's. Why? No one liked the new design, but no one bothered to ask the people buying the product. They listened to people when they complained. Reminds you of the new CokeŇ, doesn't it?

How about the mother who got tired of leaving notes on the fridge just so she could talk to her daughter? She walked out into the daylight of another life for herself. She found a life that gave her "face-time" with her daughter every single day.

What about the lady who loved birthdays? Guess what she decided to do?

Then there was the husband and wife who did not think they could ever get out of debt long enough to realize their dreams of a wonderful bakery. To the tune of 8 million dollars in sales - they realized their dreams!

What was it they all seemed to have that many of us lack? Tenacity. Determination. They were not willing to give up. Sound like a pep talk to you? It might be, but it truly is the magic formula they all used.

You've got it in there somewhere. Everyone has it. It's like a cat that hangs on with his claws for dear life to keep from falling off the side of a building.

It's that amazing belief ingredient I talked about in another article. You can read that article here, if you've not seen it before: http://www.seedyourweb.com/article1084.html

While working on this project, I've watched belief and determination work for others. Your own personal belief in yourself and the "stick-to-it-tiveness" that comes with that belief can give you the business of your dreams right at your kitchen table, too!
