Step Up and Become Yourself!

by Brian Partlow

Have you ever noticed you can be anywhere when a

sudden flash of insight hits you? You know, you're

walking through the isles of the store, or you're

driving down the road or maybe you're in the shower

and out of nowhere, you're knocked over by a sudden

flash of insight that just screams "Ah hah!"

Well, this particular morning, I was getting a little

exercise in on my Nordik Track, taking a mental break

flipping through the channels, when I came across a

video by Sting, the famous ex-front man for the 80's

band, The Police. I was awe inspired by how far he

had come. Thinking back to those early Police videos,

remembering how lanky and awkward he appeared.

Then it occurred to me that he had such a presence in

this new video. He had really grown over the years,

he had really stepped up to the plate, he had become...

and then BAM, it hit me!!

He STEPPED UP and BECAME HIMSELF!!

Think about it! He's still the same person he was

when he was born. But, he has changed; he has

risen to the challenge of stardom.

He quite literally has transformed himself to become

himself...the self he had desired to be.

Now, think about applying that to your own life. What

is it that you want? It may not be to have hit records

or music videos (though, it may very well be!). But,

you want success in your life, whatever that means to

you, don't you?

You may be promoting an Internet site, or selling

things on eBay, or building an exciting MLM company.

It doesn't matter. In any case, this is your chance

to step up and become yourself.

If you haven't met with the success that you know

you're capable of, now is your chance. If you've had

moderate success or even great success, now is your

chance to take it even further, to take it to the

next level.

Becoming yourself takes discipline but, there are

only 5 steps you'll need to follow. Only a few steps

that you'll need to master that will have you looking

back at yourself in a year, or in 6 months or

possibly in just 90 days and thinking, "I've done it.

I've become the incredible person I always knew I was

capable of becoming!"

(It's important to note though, the time it takes isn't

important, and it will be different for everyone.

But, even if it takes 5 years or longer, the rewards

to your own life, and the lives of all the people you

come in contact with, will be immeasurable. What is

important is you put in the effort, step up and

become yourself...the person you truly desire to be.)

Here are the steps:

1. Clearly define your passion. What would make you

wake up early in the morning and keep you up late at

night because you couldn't get enough of it? Look

deeper than the money. Is it time with your family or

the ability to donate time or money or both to one or

more charities? Take the necessary time to figure

this out. This is key! What is your passion?!

2. Get quiet and internalize this desire. Sit

somewhere you won't be disturbed for 15 or 20

minutes. Close your eyes, and visualize your end goal

vividly and with all the emotion you can muster. Hear

the sounds, see the sites, and feel your reactions to

your new environment as you are the new you, the

person you desire to be!! In your minds eye, play the

part of movie director and direct the film of your

life. Doing this 2 to 3 times a day, first thing when

you wake up, just before drifting off to sleep and

sometime in the middle of the day, would be ideal.

3. Start to act as if you are already that person.

Because, after all, you are! Start to react with the

new confidence that you see yourself having as if you

were already driving that brand new millennium silver

metallic Lexus SC 430 hardtop convertible with the

black leather interior!! Whenever you feel yourself

slipping into your old postures, catch yourself and

vividly picture yourself stepping up!

4. Take action! It doesn't matter what plan you chose

to launch yourself toward success, just get after it

and proceed like there's no stopping you. The world

will step aside for a person with clearly defined

objectives and a strong desire to attain them. Don't

wait for all the right conditions; there will never be

a perfect time to get started. The lights will

never be all green at the same time and there will be

detours along the way. The important thing is to get

started immediately! The path will become clear as

you move forward.

5. Frequently evaluate your progress. Make minor

adjustments along the way. Be flexible in your plan

but, steadfast in your objective. As Socrates advised

a traveler trying to reach Mount Olympus, "If you

truly want to reach Mount Olympus, just be sure every

step you make is in that direction."

You have the power within you to do great things.

And, once you achieve the great things you are striving

for, you will be able to do even greater things. Stop

looking outside yourself for the key to success, it'

inside you right now and always has been! All you

need to do is...Step Up and Become Yourself!
